“She got pregnant in senior year with Carl Jones, a twenty-two-year-old entrepreneur who had his own business when he was seventeen. They moved to Chicago where she opened her own business two years later, had three more kids, and they’re both listed in the top twenty of the richest men and women in the states.”

“Get out! That’s who taught you how to kiss?”

“Katie always liked to be the best at whatever she did,” he said as he cupped my breast. “It was important to her.”

“Apparently so,” I said, thinking back at my haphazard life. Katie had a little of Aunt Missy in her, which I admired. “Is it important to you?” I asked.

“I try to be the best GP I can be, and I try to be a good lover. How am I doing so far?”

It felt natural lying under Austin, as if we were meant to be lovers, as if we’d already been lovers and were rekindling our past romance. I felt safe lying under Austin, as if nothing in this world could harm me, as if he would do just about anything to protect me. It was weird to have all these feelings about someone I hardly knew, but still felt as though I’d known him for years.

I thought that maybe part of me had been waiting for a man like Austin my entire adult life, and he’d been here in Goldrush the entire time.

Still the question remained: How could I possibly be falling for three men at the same time?

Was I simply being greedy or did they each offer me something different that I’d been missing?

I stared up into his whiskey eyes that smoldered with lust. I drank him in, all of him. He was truly a beautiful, sexy man who could kiss like a gentle tiger.

“If your kisses are any indication of where this is going, I think I’m in for a mind-blowing experience.”

“Well, I don’t know about that, but I’ll certainly try to live up to Katie’s expectations of perfection.
